ABOUT THE PROGRAM

How long is the apprenticeship program?

The program is five years, combining on-the-job training with classroom instruction.

There is no cost to join the apprenticeship program. Apprentices may be responsible for textbooks and online course materials.

Yes. Apprentices earn competitive wages from day one, with pay increasing at regular intervals as you progress through the program.

Yes. You will work full-time in the field while attending required classroom instruction throughout the year.

No experience is necessary. We train you from the ground up.

Yes. Upon induction into the program you become a member of IBEW Local Union 180.

Our facility is located at 720 Technology Way, Napa, CA 94558.

The Application Process

How do I apply?

Must be at least 18 years of age. High school diploma or GED. Official transcripts showing completion of one year of high school algebra or one semester of college algebra with a grade of C or better. Valid driver's license and current DMV driving history report (no older than 30 days). Must be physically able to perform the work of the trade.

Qualified applicants will be notified of a date to take the NJATC Aptitude Test.

The test covers algebra, technical mathematics, and reading comprehension and takes approximately 2.5 hours to complete.

Applicants who do not pass may reapply to test again after six months.

You will be scheduled for an in-person oral interview. Your interview score determines your ranking in the applicant pool.

Yes. Applicants who can document a minimum of 4,000 hours working specifically in electrical construction may qualify for an oral interview directly. Contact us for details.

Yes. Veterans are encouraged to submit a DD-214 to verify military training and experience, which may be considered during the selection process.

Apprentices

How do I advance through the program?

Apprentices advance by completing required coursework with passing grades and accumulating the required on-the-job training hours.

Apprentices work for signatory contractors within Solano and Napa Counties.

Contact the JATC office directly. Apprentices who are between jobs may be eligible for unemployment benefits.

Journeymen

What continuing education options are available?

The JATC offers technical upgrade classes and extended education courses both on-site and online to help journeymen stay current with evolving industry standards.
